María Alexandra Cioanca Lyahovici, BSc

MSc Neuroscience Student - University of the Basque Country (Spain)

I am an intern at the Astiz Lab, where I'm focusing on developing my Master's dissertation, while learning a range of techniques and protocols. I am interested in understanding molecular mechanisms behind circadian rhythm development and how this knowledge can be applied to optimise therapies for various disorders.
I completed my Bachelor's in Occupational Therapy at the University of Burgos (Spain), where I could work with patients presenting different neurological and psychiatric disorders, developing an interest in understanding the physiological mechanisms behind. During this time, I also spent a year studying at the Politécnico do Porto (Portugal), where I became fascinated by the research work of an exceptional professor about microglia reactivity. I'm currently studying at the University of the Basque Country, doing a Master's degree in Neuroscience.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, especially if it's in contact with the nature or surrounded by live music. I also try to learn something new everyday, which has led me to discover great volunteering experiences, as well as activities like yoga and climbing.
